Imâm adh-Dhahabi (d.748AH/1347CE)

Imâm adh-Dhahabi took much (beneficial knowledge) from a group of scholars and he was covetous for such knowledge especially the knowledge of narrating hadith. From among those whom Imam adh-Dhahabi took knowledge of narrating hadith from where a group of women, he mentioned many of them in Mu’jam ush-Shuyukh. We will summarize by mentioning one of the women whom he did not hear from and thus grieved due to his inability to have met her. This woman was Umm Muhammad Sayyidah bint Musâ bin ‘Uthmân al-Mâraniyyah al-Misriyyah (d.695AH/1296CE).

Imâm adh-Dhahabisaid in his biography of her: “I travelled in order to study with her. But she died when I was in Palestine in the month of Rajab in the year 695AH (May1296 CE).”

He also said: “I was eager to meet her and I travelled to Egypt with the understanding that she was still alive, yet when I entered the country I discovered that she had died ten days prior. She died on the day of Jumu’ah 6th Rajab whilst I was in Wadi Fahma.
