Wearing Clothes of Nike's

Wearing Clothes of Nike's

Questioner: Is it permissible to buy clothes which (Nike) origins from a god?
Shaykh Ahmed an Najmee: What?
Questioner: Nike...it is English O' Shaykh.
Shaykh Ahmed an Najmee: I seek refuge in Allaah.
Questioner: However this god is not worshipped anymore. May Allaah reward you.
Shaykh Ahmed an Najmee: Even if it is not worshipped, why did they brand this with god's name?
Questioner: This is how its pronounced O Shaykh, it is not Arabic.
Shaykh Ahmed an Najmee: It is obligatory upon them to reject something like this. Yes, it is obligatory upon them to speak out and warn against those who import this brand (into the Muslim lands). This is something that should be abandoned by the Muslims.

  1. I read this before, yet it seems like the shaykh is unclear what nike is...most people don't know what the word nike means and this is not the reason people wear them, nikes are good quality clothing/footwear. I have yet to meet someone who knows what the word nike originated from and even if someone knew that isn't the reason they wear them. So, i wish someone would clarify to the shaykh that so he knows that wearing it is not an act of worship to the god. Living in America its just a good quality affordable brand. After the shaykh becomes clearly aware of this i would like to hear his stance.

some interesting info on Nike Trainers symbol, maybe we might start
    wearing reebox instead!

    The SWOOSH
The NIKE logo, the SWOOSH, found on most NIKE shoes and apparal and
other products, is a graphic desigh created by Caroline Davidson in
1971. The SWOOSH represents the wing of the Greek Goddess NIKE
    (pronounced NI-KEY)
Caroline met Phil Knight(the founder of NIKE) while she was teaching
an accounting class. She started doing some freelance work for his
company. Caroline was asked to design a logo to fit on a side of a
shoe. She came up with the SWOOSH. In return Phil Knight gave her $35
    bucks.
The first shoe with the SWOOSH logo came out in the spring of 1972...

1971: Frustrated with credit limits at local banks and a general lack
of faith in his vision, Knight finds a new method of creative
financing. Through the Bank of Tokyo, a trading company called Nissho
Iwai introduces BRS to import letters of credit and lays a foundation
for future rapid growth. With the help of Nissho Iwai, BRS
manufactures its own shoe line and the Swoosh Design trademark is
created. The night before the shoe boxes are to be printed, Johnson
dreams the company's new brand name, NIKE, the Greek Goddess of
victory. A soccer/football shoe is the first NIKE model to hit the
retail market. A NIKE T-shirt to promote the shoe becomes the first
    apparel item...

    NIKE..the Greek Goddess of Victory

NIKE, pronounced NI-KEY, is the winged goddess of victory according
to Greek mythology. She sat at the side of Zeus, the ruler of the
Olympic pantheon, in Olympus. A mystical presence, symbolizing
victorious encounters, NIKE presided over history's earliest
    battlefields.

A greek would say, "When we go to battle and win, we say it is NIKE."

Synonymous with honorod conquest, NIKE is the twentieth century
footwear that lifts the worlds greatest athletes to new levels of
mastery and achievement. The NIKE "SWOOSH" embodies the spirit of the
winged goddess who inspired the most courageous and chivalrous
warriors at the dawn of civilization.
