Mut’ah Marriage

Mut’ah Marriage
1102-Ali ibn Abi Talib reported: “The Messenger of Allah forbade Mut’ah (temporary marriage) on the day of the Battle of Khaibar and also prohibited the eating of the flesh of  donkeys.”

1103-‘Urawah ibn Zubair reported: Khaulah daughter of Hakim went to Umar ibn Al-Khattab and said; Rabi’ah ibn Umayyah had contracted Mut’ah (temporary marriage with a muwalladgh1 woman and she is pregnant by Rai’ah. Umar issued out perplexed dragging his garment and said “ This temporary marriage. If I had had forbidden it previously I would have ordered stoning.

1.      A muwalladah woman is one who is born in Arabia peninsula, but whose parents are not Arabs. It  is unanimously held that one who contracts temporary marriage is not liable to the same punishment as a fornicator.
