Riya' (doing good deeds for showing-off)

Riya’

A little Riya’ (doing good deeds for show-off); for example, when one prays, fast, or gives charity, he is seeking other than Allah’s Face; hence, he is mixing good deeds with bad ones. The Prophet (sallahu alayhi wa salaam) said: “What I fear for you is the lesser Shirk” When asked about it he said: “Riya”

When one preforms any good deed or act of worship to impress or please people, then he has committed Riya’, which is forbidden. In another Hadith related by Shaddad bin Aws, the Prophet (sallahu alayhi wa salaam) said: “Whoever prays, showing off to others, he has indeed committed Shirk. Whoever fasts, showing off to others, he has indeed committed Shirk. Whoever gives charity, showing off to others, he has indeed committed Shirk.

Another form of lesser Shirk is to swear by anyone other than Allah, for instance, to swear by the Prophet (sallahu alayhi wa salaam) by the Ka’bah, or by ones parents.

Excerpt from this Month's Reading

Belif In Allâh:

Having faith in Allaah means to believe with certainty and conviction that Allaah is the Lord and Sovereign all that exist, that He is the Creator and Planner and Sustainer of the entire universe, that He alone and without a partner deserves to be worshipped, that all that is worshipped other than Him is worshipped in vain, that Allaah has the most exalted and prefect attributes, and that He is far above from having any fault or defect.

What it means to Bear Witness to “Laa Ilaha Illallah”

Ash-Shahadah, or to bear witness, means to inform about something that you know of and that you believe to be true and established. That is the meaning of Shahadah in the Arabic language; in the Shari’ah it has this meaning:Toadmit and to believe that none deserve worship except Allah alone and He has no partners. So by saying Laa Ilaha Illallah, we believe and afirm that none deserves worship except Allah; we must stay staedfast upon this phrase and apply it Therefore we msut worship Allah alone without associating any partner with Him. Allah Almighty says: “So know that Laa Ilaha Illallah (none has the right to be worshiped but Allah) and ask forgiveness for your sins”

Excerpt from this Month's Reading

Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Bin Baaz (rahimahullah) said:
“Does not the one who refuses, who feigns to forget Allah’s order and prohibitions, know that he will be taken out of his grave, that even his innermost intentions will become clear, that Allah Almighty knows all that he does including the deeds he does privately and finally, that Allah Almighty will give him just recompense for all of his actions. Therefore, one should never allow the love of wealth to deviate him from gratefulness to his Lord, from worshipping Him and from striving for the Hereafter.”

We must say that going back over the basic fundamentals of the Deen is very rewarding  because you begin to realize how much you have lost in not seeking  knowledge day and night, instead we find ourselves doing things that is of no benefit to us, our families and our companions. How many of us can truly say that we know the conditions of the prayer, we know the pillars of the prayer and what are the things that would invaldate your prayer. Should you find yourself  unable to answer these questions then  we sincerely advise you to get this book a sap.

This also an excellent book for those who are new to the Deen.

"Wisdom Behind the Creation of Iblees"

‘Abdullah bin Mas’oud said:

“Allaah knew what they (the Angels) did not know about Iblees”

Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah mentioned many aspects of the wisdom behind the creation of Iblees

1.      The mainfestation of Allah’s ability to create contradiciting comparables. He created the most wicked and evil self of Iblees, the source of every evil. In contrst, He created the most purified and honorable self of the Angel Jibreel(Gabriel). His Ability is also manifested in the creation of Day and Night, illness and its Cure, Life and Daeth, Beautiful and Ugly, and many other contrasting forms of creation.

2.      The manifestationof Allah’s Compulsory Names, such as The Irresistible, The Severe in His Punishment, The Swift in His Reckoning, The One Whose Grip (of Punishment) is so Severe,The One Who endue in honor whom He Wills, and humiliate whom He Wills etc. Certainly, there must be existing beings upon whom the compulsory Names and Actions will be manifested. Had the Jinn (beings created from fire; Iblees is from the Jinn) and mankind been created in the same nature as the Angels(created from lightand totally obedient to Allah), then the Compulsory Names and Actions of Allah would not be manifested!

3.      The manifestedof other Names of Allah that denote His forgiveness, Mercy, Fore-Bearing, etc. Had the means that lead to the manifestations of these Names been not created, then many benefits and wise acts would not have been realized.

4.      The manifestation of the Names of Hikmah (Wisdom) whereby Allah (The All-Wise) endues in honor whom He Wills and humiliates whom He Wills; He knows Prefectly well where He Places His Message, and who is good to receive it. He Knows all those who will be thankful for His favor.

5.      Extracting and bringing forth all the true forms of worship to Allah alone as a result of the creation of Iblees. Some of these acts of worship include, Jihad for the cause of Allah, giving support and protection to the believers, loving and hating for Allah’s sake, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, seeking repentance from Allah, seeking refuge in Him Alone, disobeying Iblees (the enemy of Allah) and seeking refuge in Allah from his (Shyatan’s) plots, staying away from arrogance, etc.

Excerpt from this Month's Reading: "The Meaning of Al-Qadaa’ and Al-Qadar"

The Meaning of Al-Qadaa’ and Al-Qadar

The linguistic and Islamic meaning of Al-Qadaa’ and Al-Qadar are inter-related. The linguistic meaning of Al-Qadaa’ refers to the “prefect commanding, decreeing, ruling, accomplishing and prefect precision in execution”, while Al-Qadar refers to the setting, commanding, executing, and encompassing in due and precise proportion.”

Islamic ally, Al-Qadar “is the ability of Allah” where He knew, wrote, willed, and created all things in due proportion before and according to a precise measure. Allah knew that all things will happen before bringing them to existence and according to predestined proportions and measures which Allah had written in a Book called Al-Laouh ul Mahfoudh (The Preserved Tablet).

Al-Qadaa’ is the perfectly precise execution and accomplishment of all things predestined to occur exactly in accordance with Allah’s previous Knowledge, Writing and Will. So, there is a strong relationship between the linguistic and Islamic meanings of Al-Qadaa and Al-Qadar

Excerpt from this Month's Reading: SHAFAA’AH (INTERCEDING)

SHAFAA’AH (INTERCEDING)

Shafaa’ah in the language means: du’aa, and this is what is meant by the shafaa’ah which is established for him (sallahu alayhi wa salaam) and for the other Prophets and the Pious on the Day of Resurrection. This shows that shafaa’ah is more particular than du’aa since it will only occur if there are two people seeking a matter, so that one of them is a supplicant for the other, as opposed to a single person seeking something who does not bring anyone else as a supplicant for him, as occurs in Lisaanu-‘Arab:

SHAFAA’AH (INTERCEDING): is the intercessor’s speaking to a king about a need which he is requesting for someone else, and the intercessor is the one seeking something for someone else, through whom he intercedes to attain what is desired…”

Excerpt from this Month Reading “Tawassul Its Types& Its Rulings”

The Incorrectness and Futility of seeking to do Tawassul in any way other than the Three Preceding ways

So from what has precede you know that prescribed Tawassul, that which is proven by the texts of the Book and the Sunnah, and which is proven by the practice of the Pious Predecessors, and upon which there is consensus (ijmaa) of the Muslims is:

1.      Tawassul by means of the Names of Allah, the Blessed and the Most High, and His Attributes.

2.      Tawassul by means of a righteous action which the person who is supplicating has done.

3.      Tawassul by means of the supplication made by a righteous man.

As for anything besides these types of Tawassul, then there is disagreement about it, and what we believe firmly and hold as our religion before Allah, the Most High, is that other ways are not permissible, and not prescribed. This is because there is no acceptable proof for them, and these things have been spoken against by verifying scholars in successive centuries of Islamic history.

To learn more on this subject matter you must get the book

Excerpt from "20 Pieces of Advice to My Sisters Before Her Marriage"

As’Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Yaa Ahkwaat! I have come across another good read I must say  so far in my reading of this book the Shaikh really knows the women Ajeeb! Truly we are a creature of habit  everything that I have read from this book I have heard this before from my Great Grand Mother, Grand Mother, Mother, Aunts, etc  but growing up in a family where the women out numbered the men, out did the men it was kind of hard in life to really know how to treat a man let alone appreciate him  some of us tend to do to  little or go too far in our treatment  toward our husband. Islam has really showed me how to be a real woman. This book is for every sister the one who is married, single, and looking to get married my advice is to GET THIS BOOK!  If you don’t have it already.

You will learn that there are some things that you knew already but you left off of them. A woman already knows who she wants for a husband but now she must learn how to keep him. And this is where this book comes in handy  strictly Kitaab and Sunnah

The Shaikh mentions four types of women I will give you the second type:

Second Type: From amongst them are: the Shafsha’leeq, Sah’sha, Salfa’a possessor of saturated poison, a spark of light yet worn out, she moves with the husband says “No” she says “Yes” if he says “Yes” she says “No” she is born to disgrace him. She looks down at the good he has done for her and belittles him by comparing him to others men. She moves him from one state to another, to the point that his home has become insignificant to him and his children have become a source of boredom. His life festers and he looks down upon himself. His brothers criticize him and his neighbors have mercy on him.

The Shaikh give the definition of the words which are bolded but you have to read the book to learn what they mean and once you do you are going to hit yourself and be like I have to get on point right now. Lol,lol,

Excerpt From Our Book The Month

Ahkwaat! I have to say this is a wonderful read the Shaikh do not let up with admonitions us and reminding us of our role in this Deen  in life  those of you who are reading this book take heed

Excerpt: O sisters in Allâh! How great are these etiquettes which Allâh  the Almighty cultivated the wives of the Prophet (sallahu alayhi wasallam). and the Muslim women upon! The first of these good manners is: Allâh  the Almighty commanded the believing women to remain in their homes and not leave the house except if there is a need for that, this is because leaving the house unnecessarily is a sign of deficiency in a woman's religion, her honor, and her dignity; and also by doing so, she is subjecting herself into the trap of the devil and subjecting herself in to temptation which she wouldn’t have fallen into if she was to remain in the house.

Excerpt From Our Book The Month

O Muslim women! Fear Allâh, fear His punishment and be eager upon seeking the pleasure of your Lord and obtaining His paradise in an eternal life and perpetual abode.

O Muslim sisters! It is unacceptable textually and intellectually that we pray and fast according to Allâh’s legislation but receive from the west or the east our dress code, uniform and fashions.

Verily the One Who sent down this statement:

“Verily, whosoever sets up partners (in worship) with Allâh, then Allâh has forbidden Paradise to him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) there are no helpers.”

Ammatul-Wahid (her name is Sutayah) besides her narrating Hadith was a scholar, jurist and  one capable of passing legal verdicts (Muftiyyah). Al-Khatib described her as follows: “ She was virtuous in herself, extremely truthful, quick to do good deeds and Hadith were narrated and written from her”

She studied Islamic jurisprudence from her father and narrated from him and from Isma’il al-Warraq and ‘Abdul Ghafir al-Himsi. She memorized the Qur’an and the fiqh of ash-Shafi and became well versed in the laws of inheritance with its associated issues, Arabic and more besides. Al-Barqani stated: “She used to pass verdicts with Abu ‘Ali bin Abu Hurayrah.” Others have said: “ She was the best memorized of the people concerning fiqh and al-Hasan bin Muhammad al-Khilal narrated from her.”

Excerpt From Our Monthly Read: “The Noble Women Scholars of Hadith”

Mu’adhah bint ‘Abdullah Ummu’s-Sahba’ al-‘Adhawiyyah al-Basriyyah al-‘Abidah said:

“I am amazed by the eye which sleeps while it knows the length of the sleep within the darkness of the graves.”

She once told a woman who she suckled until she grew up:

“O my daughter! Be amongst those who meet Allaah the Most High upon cautiousness and hope; for indeed I have seen the hopeful one encompassed with goodness of being close to Him on the day he meets Him and I have seen the one fearful of Him looking forward to Him at the time of the day in which the people will stand for the Lord of the worlds.”

She then wept and she used to say:

“I have accompanied the world for seventy years and I have never seen within it the coolness of the eyes.”

Excerpt From Our Book The Month

Value of Women and their Position before the time of Prophethood

Umm Musa. She realized the value of women and their position before the time of Prophet-Hood. She praised Islâm for glorifying and exalting her, and she thanked its first call for being concerned with her and for its guidance. She did not leave men to do things by themselves without her. Just as she followed the new religion in all stages in faith and punishment in its path, and migrated to it and called to it by tongue and by the sword by herself and along with her family members, husband, son and family. So as to safeguard the din and show enthusiasm for it and she dedicated her night and day to it along with her travel, her presence, her residency and her Hijra (migration), as a virgin, as a wife and as a mother.

She was dutiful and at times surpassed men, as the first of the believers was a woman and the first martyr in the path of Allâh was a woman and likewise she was dutiful in spreading the din and preserving it, accepting it and conveying it. It is known that some women were those who reported thousands and hundreds and tens of ahadith of the master of the Messengers. Her condition progressed and the Muslim woman increased in self-trust, mighty status and happiness with Islâm. From women were to be found admonishers, scholars, jurists and Hadith specialists throughout the different times and epochs, in all areas and regions. She found herself after loss and ruin and from going from condition to condition, from a condition wherein she was a despised thing within the family and society during her childhood and her youth with no rights, no respect and no care for her opinions and presence.

Men enslaved her submissiveness and if she was asked she would not answer and if she was needed to gather firewood, fetch water, pick-up the date-kernels for the camels and feed the dogs she had to do it if she quiet. She was a garment for the thirst of desires in aversion and distrust as from the day of her entry into the world faces would be grieved and souls would be perplexed and disturbed as to what to do with her, should the father keep the baby girl or bury her alive in the ground? Her glad-tidings were thus indignation, anger and to be buried alive into the earth, yet intelligence was her distinctive character throughout the length of her time with the light of the heavens and guidance of the Prophets. Men with their idolatrous actions and upbring of soothsaying tried to conceal her delightful origins and yet her body, shining and glowing and not fearing or turning away.

Imâm adh-Dhahabi

Grieves due to His Inability to meet one of The Female Scholars

Imâm adh-Dhahabi (d.748AH/1347CE)

Imâm adh-Dhahabi took much (beneficial knowledge) from a group of scholars and he was covetous for such knowledge especially the knowledge of narrating hadith. From among those whom Imam adh-Dhahabi took knowledge of narrating hadith from where a group of women, he mentioned many of them in Mu’jam ush-Shuyukh. We will summarize by mentioning one of the women whom he did not hear from and thus grieved due to his inability to have met her. This woman was Umm Muhammad Sayyidah bint Musâ bin ‘Uthmân al-Mâraniyyah al-Misriyyah (d.695AH/1296CE).

Imâm adh-Dhahabisaid in his biography of her: “I travelled in order to study with her. But she died when I was in Palestine in the month of Rajab in the year 695AH (May1296 CE).”

He also said: “I was eager to meet her and I travelled to Egypt with the understanding that she was still alive, yet when I entered the country I discovered that she had died ten days prior. She died on the day of Jumu’ah 6th Rajab whilst I was in Wadi Fahma.
